Brand Introduction Hamilton was established in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA. The brand gained fame for developing the first pocket watch, the Broadway Limited, which was designed to provide accurate railroad timings. In 1914, it was selected as a supplier for the United States Army Air Service, and in 1919, the company offered timing services for ski competitions and the United States Postal Service.
By the 1930s, Hamilton watches were used by many airlines as official timepieces. During World War II, in 1947, Hamilton temporarily halted the sale of civilian watches to focus on manufacturing almost one million military watches. In 1970, it introduced the world's first digital watch, the Pulsar, and was acquired by the Omega-Tissot-Lanco group (SSIH) in 1977, later becoming part of the Swatch Group in 1983.
